Disability related health supports

Disability related health supports are moving to the NDIS

Defining health related supports as being the responsibility of the health sector vs the NDIS is a longstanding issue. This has been somewhat clarified by changes to move some health related supports to the NDIS budget.

For example, families with hearing impairment costs will see this being included in their NDIS plans.

The support categories currently covered include:

  • continence

  • diabetic management

  • dysphagia

  • epilepsy

  • nutrition

  • podiatry

  • respiratory

  • wound and pressure care

Find out more about this on the NDIS website here. It specifies that the list is not exhaustive and there is flexibility in how these supports can be met from 1st October 2019.

As always, talk to your LAC / ECIC partner if you are concerned you have a disability related health support that has not been met on your plan. You will need to identify these for future planning meetings.

** Information is correct at time of publishing. The NDIA changes rules and policies frequently. Families should check information for themselves rather than relying on this article which may become outdated **
